Prostatic branches of inferior vesical artery
Rami prostatici arteriae vesicalis inferioris
- Related terms: Prostatic branches male
Definition
The inferior vesical artery typically originates from the anterior division of the internal iliac artery. It then gives rise to the prostatic branches, which can be divided into two main pedicles:
The superior prostatic pedicle is the primary arterial supply to the prostate, providing branches to both the inferior bladder and the ejaculatory system.
The inferior prostatic pedicle forms a plexus at the prostatic apex and anastomoses with the superior pedicle.[1]
The origin of the prostatic arteries can vary. They may arise from the anterior trunk of the internal iliac artery, the superior vesical artery, or the internal pudendal artery. This variability is significant for procedures such as prostatic arterial embolization (PAE).[2-3]
