Retroduodenal arteries
Arteriae retroduodenales
- Eponym: Michel's arteries
Definition
The retroduodenal arteries are the direct duodenal branches of the gastroduodenal artery that course behind the first and second portions of the duodenum, running in the retroperitoneal plane between the posterior duodenal wall and the head of the pancreas. More distally, the duodenum is vascularized by the duodenal branches of posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery.
