Vein of uncus

Vena uncalis

  • Related terms: Uncal vein

Definition

The vein of uncus (uncal vein) is a small cerebral vein located medially to the temporal lobe along the anterior margin of the uncus. The peripheral tributes of the vein of uncus communicate with the first segment of the basal vein of Rosenthal, and the vein of uncus terminates into the superficial middle cerebral vein or cavernous sinus.

Therefore, the vein of uncus is known as a communicating channel between the cavernous sinus and the basal vein of Rosenthal.
