Apex of lung
Apex pulmonis
Definition
The apex of the lung is the cranial, tapered part of each lung, located near the thoracic inlet, in close proximity to the first rib and the clavicle. It is oriented craniodorsally and opposes the base of the lung, which rests on the diaphragm. The apex corresponds to the cranial end of the cranial lobe of each lung.
