Cerebral lobes

Lobi cerebri

Definition

Juliette Garnodier

Cerebral lobes are superficial subdivisions of each hemisphere, corresponding to the cerebral cortex, delineated by cerebral sulci and encompassing gyri. The main lobes are:

  • Frontal lobe: located anteriorly (rostral pole) in the hemisphere, associated with motor and higher cognitive functions.

  • Parietal lobe: located dorsally between the frontal and occipital lobes, involved in sensory and spatial processing.

  • Temporal lobe: located laterally beneath the frontal and parietal lobes, involved in hearing and memory.

  • Occipital lobe: located posteriorly (caudal pole) in the hemisphere, primarily dedicated to visual processing.
