Cerebral lobes
Lobi cerebri
Definition
Cerebral lobes are superficial subdivisions of each hemisphere, corresponding to the cerebral cortex, delineated by cerebral sulci and encompassing gyri. The main lobes are:
Frontal lobe: located anteriorly (rostral pole) in the hemisphere, associated with motor and higher cognitive functions.
Parietal lobe: located dorsally between the frontal and occipital lobes, involved in sensory and spatial processing.
Temporal lobe: located laterally beneath the frontal and parietal lobes, involved in hearing and memory.
Occipital lobe: located posteriorly (caudal pole) in the hemisphere, primarily dedicated to visual processing.
