Parietal lobe
Lobus parietalis
Definition
The parietal lobe is the dorsal and medial region of the cerebral hemisphere, located behind the frontal lobe, corresponding to the cortex of this part of the hemisphere. It is involved in the processing, integration, and interpretation of sensory information. In particular, it contains somatosensory cortical regions that receive tactile, kinesthetic, and nociceptive information from the thalamus via the internal capsule.
In domestic animals, the terminology of the cerebral lobes has more limited functional relevance compared with humans.
