Eyelash
Cilia
Definition
The eyelashes are special long, stiff hairs implanted on the anterior palpebral margin to protect the eye. The eyelashes of the upper eyelid are more numerous and developed than those of the inferior eyelid, to the point that in some species the latter are absent, mainly in carnivores and pigs. The ciliary and sebaceous glands supply various secretions to the eyelashes in a similar way to other body hairs.
