Lateral palpebral ligament

Ligamentum palpebrale laterale

Definition

Felipe Barona Lopez

The lateral palpebral ligament is a ligament that attaches the superior and inferior tarsi to the lateral margin of the orbit. In many species, it is described as weaker than the medial palpebral ligament. Together with the medial ligament, they allow the palpebral fissure to have its horizontal linear shape when the eyelids are closed.

The lateral palpebral ligament attaches to the zygomatic bone.
