Medial palpebral ligament

Ligamentum palpebrale mediale

Definition

Felipe Barona Lopez

The medial palpebral ligament is a ligament that attaches the superior and inferior tarsi to the medial orbital margin. Together with the lateral palpebral ligament, they enable the palpebral fissure to have its horizontal linear shape when the eyelids are closed.

Depending on the species, the attachment of the medial palpebral ligament may be located on the lacrimal bone or on the frontal process of the maxilla.
