Maxilla

Maxilla

Definition

The maxilla is the largest bone of the face. It is an even, asymmetrical bone that carries the upper molar and premolar teeth. In species where it exists, the maxilla also carries the upper canine tooth. The maxilla is very irregular in shape. Its main part is the body of the maxilla, which is thick and spread out on the side of the face: it is excavated by the maxillary sinus.
