Gastric impression
Impressio gastrica
Definition
The gastric impression of the liver is a concave area on the visceral surface of the liver, formed by the contact of the liver with the fundus and body of the stomach.
It is most prominent in species with a large glandular stomach (e.g., ruminants and pigs), and may subdivided into several parts if stomach with comparments, and less distinct in animals where the stomach does not lie in close proximity to the liver (e.g., horse)
