Left atrioventricular orifice
Ostium atrioventriculare sinistrum
Definition
The left atrioventricular orifice is the opening between the left atrium and the left ventricle of the heart, which is guarded by the left atrioventricular valve [Bicsupid valve; Mitral valve]. This orifice allows blood to flow from the left atrium into the left ventricle during diastole.
