Definition

The middle tracheobronchial lymph nodes are lymph nodes located in the mediastinum at the level of the tracheal bifurcation, between the right and left principal bronchi. They belong to the thoracic lymphatic center and play an important role in the lymphatic drainage of the pulmonary and bronchial structures.

They are located dorsal to the tracheal bifurcation and near the vascular structures of the pulmonary hilum. Their number and size may vary depending on the species.

These lymph nodes receive lymph from the lungs, the principal bronchi, and parts of the trachea and mediastinum, before draining into the mediastinal lymph nodes and the bronchomediastinal lymphatic trunks.
