Mouth
Os
Definition
The mouth is the opening of the oral cavity, which houses the teeth and the tongue. It is a transverse slit closed by two lips, an upper and a lower, which join on each side at a commissure that defines the angle of the mouth.
The shape of the lips varies greatly among species. In ungulates, and especially in equids, the mouth is much longer than it is wide. In contrast, it is particularly short in cats and in humans.
