Oral cavity
Cavum oris
Definition
The oral cavity is the part of the mouth that contains the tongue and the teeth. It communicates with the outside through the oral fissure, and posteriorly with the pharynx through the isthmus of the fauces.
It is bounded by the following walls:
The upper and lower lips, which delimit the oral fissure,
The cheeks, laterally,
The hard palate, dorsally,
The soft palate, caudally,
The sublingual floor, ventrally.
