Nose
Nasus
Definition
The nose (Nasus) is located on the face. The nasal region includes several subdivisions: the dorsum of the nose, the apex of the nose, and the nostrils.
The dorsum of the nose extends rostrally from the forehead at the level of the eyes. It continues laterally into the infraorbital and cheek regions, and rostrally into the tip of the nose.
The apex of the nose is bordered by the nostrils. It terminates rostrally the bridge of the nose and overhangs the upper lip, with which it forms the snout. The arrangement and appearance of the latter, as well as the shape of the nostrils, vary greatly from one species to another.
The nasal region is much more developed in animals compared with humans.
