Orbital septum

Septum orbitale

Definition

Felipe Barona Lopez

The orbital septum is a blade of fibrous connective tissue that attaches to the orbital margin and extends into the eyelids to attach to the superior and inferior tarsi. When the eyelids are closed, the tarsi and the orbital septum completely close the orbital opening.

The orbital septum is pierced by different openings to allow the passage of vessels or nerves leaving the orbit, as well as the fibers of the levator palpebrae superioris.
