Palpebral conjunctiva

Tunica conjunctiva palpebrarum

Definition

Felipe Barona Lopez

The palpebral conjunctiva is the part of the conjunctiva that covers the posterior surface of the eyelids, from the posterior palpebral margin to the fornix of the conjunctiva.

It is thin and more or less transparent or pigmented, depending on location and species. It is often more pigmented near the eyelid margin and on the free edge of the third eyelid.

Near the eyelid margin, it has a smooth appearance and becomes increasingly folded towards the fornixes, together with increasing numbers of conjunctival glands and lymphonoduli aggregati conjunctivales.
