Pars reticulata
Definition
The pars reticulata is the ventral portion of the substantia nigra, containing spontaneously active GABAergic neurons. It serves as the output for basal nuclei circuits, projecting to the thalamus, tectum, and red nucleus, and participates in the control of saccadic eye movements.
