Appendicular artery

Arteria appendicularis

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The appendicular artery typically originates from the ileocolic artery, which is a branch of the superior mesenteric artery. The appendicular artery travels within the free wall of mesoappendix to reach the appendix, providing its vascular supply.[1-3]

In addition to the main appendicular artery, there can be accessory appendicular arteries that also contribute to the blood supply of the appendix that may originate from various sources, including the posterior cecal artery and branches of the ileocolic artery.
