Subcutaneous bursa of tuberosity of tibia
Bursa subcutanea tuberositatis tibiae
Definition
The subcutaneous bursa of the tuberosity of the tibia is a native bursa located just beneath the skin overlying the tibial tuberosity. This bursa functions to reduce friction between the skin and the underlying bony prominence of the tibial tuberosity.
Note: the difference between the subcutaneous infrapatellar bursa and the subcutaneous bursa of tuberosity of tibia remains unclear, as some studies show that subcutaneous infrapatellar bursa extends quite distally, in front of the anterior tibial tuberosity. [2]
