Subtendinous bursa of latissimus dorsi muscle
Bursa subtendinea musculi latissimi dorsi
- Related terms: Subtendinous bursa of latissimus dorsi
Definition
The subtendinous bursa of the latissimus dorsi is a small synovial sac situated between the latissimus dorsi tendon and the teres major tendon or the humerus, near their insertion on the medial lip of the intertubercular sulcus.
The bursa serves to reduce friction where the tendons of the latissimus dorsi and teres major twist around each other before attaching to the humerus.
Please note that the subtendinous bursa of latissimus dorsi is distinct and separate from the subtendinous bursa of teres major muscle. The latter lies between the tendon of the teres major and the bone of the humerus.
