The trochanteric bursa of the gluteus medius muscle (anterior subgluteus medius bursa) is a synovial bursa located around the greater trochanter of the femur beneath the gluteus medius tendon, in the superior part of the lateral facet of the greater trochanter. It helps reduce friction between the gluteus medius tendon and the underlying bone.
