Fasciculus atrioventricularis

  • Eponym: His; Kent

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The atrioventricular bundle (Bundle of His in human anatomy) is a strand of specialized cardiac myocardium that provides the l electrical connection between the atria and ventricles. It forms an anatomical continuation of the atrioventricular (AV) node and transmits electrical impulses from the AV node to the right and left bundle branches, which then distribute the signal to the ventricles.

In dogs, the atrioventricular bundle begins at the e atrioventricular node begins in the septal wall of the atrium approximately 5 mm cranioventral to the opening of the coronary sinus and craniodorsal to the septal cusp of the right atrioventricular valve. From this the atrioventricular bundle runs cranial and ventral through the fibrous base of the heart. As it does so it divides into right and left branches.
