Costovertebral joints

The costovertebral joints are located between ribs and thoracic vertebrae. These joints are subdivided into two different joints:

• The joint of head of rib: a spheroidal joint between the head of a rib and the bodies of two adjacent vertebrae and intervertebral disc. 
• The costransverse joint: a sliding joint formed by the articular surfaces of the costal tubercle and the transverse process of the corresponding vertebra.
