Definition
The joint of head od rib is the joint between the costal head of a rib and the bodies of the corresponding vertebra and the one preceding it.
The cup-shaped space that accommodates the head of the rib is formed by the cranial costal facet of the vertebra of the same rank as the rib and by the caudal costal facet of the preceding vertebra.
Variation :
In dogs and cats, from the eleventh to the thirteenth ribs, this joint is formed only with the cranial costal facet of the corresponding vertebra.
