Dorsal surface

Facies dorsalis

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The dorsal surface of the kidney refers to the part of the kidney that faces toward the vertebral column. It lies opposite the ventral surface and is generally flattened or slightly convex, depending on the species. This surface is typically in contact with the lumbar muscles and may be closely related to structures like the sublumbar lymph nodes or adrenal glands.
