Ileocolic lymph nodes

Lymphonodi ileocolici

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The ileocolic lymph nodes (Nodi lymphatici ileocolici) are located near the junction of the ileum and the large intestine, but not in direct contact with the cecum. They are found within the mesoileum and close to the initial portion of the colon. These lymph nodes are present only in the pig, the human, and possibly the goat. Their afferent vessels originate from the ileum, the cecum, and the ascending colon. The efferent vessels drain into the celiac or intestinal trunks, or into the cranial mesenteric lymph nodes (in humans).
