Lateral geniculate body

Corpus geniculatum laterale

Definition

Juliette Garnodier

The lateral geniculate body is a nucleus of the metathalamus, located dorsally, rostrally, and slightly laterally relative to the medial geniculate body. It receives axons from the retina and optic tract, as well as from the visual cortex, and projects to the primary visual cortex via the optic radiation, participating in the transmission and processing of visual information, including the perception of size, direction, details, and color.
