Medial geniculate body

Corpus geniculatum mediale

Definition

Juliette Garnodier

The medial geniculate body is a nucleus of the metathalamus, located at the caudal end of the diencephalon, which receives auditory fibers from the inferior colliculus and the lateral lemniscus, and projects to the primary and associative auditory cortex via the acoustic radiation, enabling the recognition of sound patterns and the interpretation of their significance.
