Definition
The lingual surface of the mandible is the inner, medial surface of the mandibular body, facing the oral cavity and the tongue.
At the level of the incisive part, it is concave and smooth. At the level of the molar part, it is also smooth, but it has a slightly marked ridge of insertion, the mylohyoid line. Ventral to this line, a depression may also be observed, the sublingual fossa, often barely perceptible.
