Ramus of mandible
Ramus mandibulae
Definition
The ramus of mandible is the caudal and vertical part of the mandible. It joins the body of mandible at the angle of mandible.
Dorsally, the ramus of mandible bears the coronoid process rostrally and the condylar process caudally. Its lateral surface bears the masseteric fossa, which corresponds to the insertion zone of the masseter muscle. The medial surface reveals the mandibular foramen, which is the dorsocaudal opening of the mandibular canal.
