Pterygoid fossa

Fossa pterygoidea

Definition

Andréa Lopes da Costa

The pterygoid fossa of the mandible is a depression on the medial side of the mandible’s ramus.

It corresponds to the origin of the pterygoideus medialis muscle.

In dogs and cats, it is barely visible.
