Angle of mandible
Angulus mandibulae
Definition
The angle of the mandible is the angular bony region located at the junction between the ventral border of the mandibular body and the caudal border of the ramus.
It corresponds to the transition zone between the horizontal (body) and vertical (ramus) portions of the mandible. The angle of the mandible is an important muscle attachment point, particularly for masticatory muscles such as the masseter muscle (lateral surface) and the pterygoideus medialis muscle (medial surface), thus playing a crucial role in chewing movements.
