Musculus masseter

Definition

Origin: Ventral border of the rostral half of the zygomatic arch.

Insertion: Ventrolateral surface of the mandible and ventral margin of the masseteric fossa of the mandible.

Action: Raises the mandible in closing the mouth.

Nerve: Trigeminus.
