Masseteric fascia
Fascia masseterica
Definition
The masseteric fascia covers the masseter muscle. It continues rostrally with the buccopharyngeal fascia and caudally with the parotid fascia. Dorsally, this fascia extends over the zygomatic arch and is continuous with the temporal fascia. Ventrally, it lies in the intermandibular space. The masseteric fascia contains the buccal branches of the facial nerve and the parotid duct. It also contains portions of the sphincter colli profundus and the platysma.
