Sphincter colli profundus
Musculus sphincter colli profundus
Definition
In dogs, the sphincter colli profundus muscle is a cutaneous muscle of the masseteric and parotid regions. It consists of thin muscle fibers that extend dorsoventrally from the base of the ear, lateral to the masseter muscle and the parotid gland. These fibers are covered by the platysma and extend ventrally to fuse with the fibers of the same muscle on the opposite side.
