The temporalis muscle and masseter muscle belong to the masticatory muscles, along with the pterygoideus lateralis muscle and pterygoideus medialis muscle and the digastric muscle. They are all innervated by the mandibular nerve, derived from the trigeminal nerve, with the exception of the caudal part of the digastricus, which is innervated by the facial nerve.
