Canalis mandibulae
Definition
The mandibular canal (Canalis mandibulae), for the inferior alveolar nerve, -artery, and -vein, begins on the medial surface of the ramus of the mandible, at the mandibular foramen, and runs obliquely downward and forward in the ramus; then forward horizontally in the body until the mental foramen or foramina, where it is placed under the alveoli and communicates with them by the accessory alveolar canal and small openings that connect to the roots of the teeth.
