Facies lingualis

Definition

The medial or lingual surface (Facies lingualis) of the molar part of the mandible is smooth, it shows near its dorsal border a crest of insertion often hardly visible, the mylohyoid line (Linea mylohyoidea), for the mylohyoid muscle, and ventrally to it an elongated depression, sometimes barely visible, the sublingual fossa (Fovea sublingualis), for the sublingual gland.
