Palatine process
Processus palatinus
- Related terms: Palatine process of incisive bone
Definition
The palatine process of the incisor bone is a thin, dorsoventrally flattened bony extension, smaller than the nasal process of the same bone.
Its dorsal aspect forms the floor of the nose and provides attachment for the median nasal septum and part of the vomer. Its ventral surface forms the rostral part of the hard palate.
It also contributes to the delimitation of the palatine fissure with the body of the incisive bone, the base of the nasal process, and the rostral end of the maxilla.
