Definition

Mayla Alcobaça, Andréa Lopes da Costa

The pterygoid hamulus is a curved bony projection, formed from a small process at the ventral end of the pterygoid bone, which projects laterally and eventually forms it. The pterygoid hamulus has grooves on its outer surface and forms a hook that serves as an attachment point for the tendon of the tensor veli palatini muscle.
