Definition
The subthalamic nucleus (or subthalamic body) is a structure of the subthalamus located in the caudal diencephalon, ventromedial to the zona incerta, dorsomedial to the cerebral crus, and rostral to the substantia nigra, composed of excitatory neurons that participate in motor control by activating inhibitory neurons of the entopeduncular nucleus.
