The thoracic part of the trapezius muscle in animals is located in the dorsal region of the trunk, more specifically on the spinous processes of the thoracic vertebrae and the supraspinous ligament. It is generally wider and thicker than the cervical part, forming a muscle bundle that descends and moves laterally.

Origin: Supraspinal ligament

Insertion: Proximal third of the spine of the scapula

Action: Elevation of the forelimb and facilitates the forward movement of the limb (protraction)

Nerve: Accessory nerve
