Definition

Antoine Micheau

The lateral malleolar branch of the fibular artery arises from the fibular artery deep to the tendons of the fibularis longus and brevis muscles. It communicates anteriorly with the anterior lateral malleolar artery and the perforating branch of the fibular artery to contribute to the lateral malleolar network. It gives some posterior branches, the calcaneal branches of fibular artery, that pass to the lateral side of the heel, and communicate on the back of the heel, with the medial calcaneal arteries, and contibute to form the calcaneal anastomosis.
