The subcutaneous acromial bursa is a small, superficial synovial sac located between the skin and the acromion process of the scapula. serves to reduce friction between the acromion and the overlying skin and subcutaneous tissue, particularly during shoulder elevation or when pressure is applied to the superior aspect of the shoulder, e.g., when carrying loads.
