Articular facet of costal head
Facies articularis capitis costae
Definition
The costal head is rounded with an articular facet for the articulation with thoracic vertebrae.
The articular facet of the head of the rib is divided by the crest of the costal head into two parts: the cranial part articulating with the fovea costalis caudalis of the thoracic vertebra and the caudal part articulating with the fovea costalis cranialis of the next thoracic vertebra. The crest of the costal head presents a groove for the attachment of the intercapital ligament.
