Ethmoidal foramen

Foramen ethmoidale

Definition

Stephan Mahler

The ethmoidal foramen is a small opening located rostrally to the optic canal, belonging to the frontal bone. It is located in the suture between the presphenoid bone and the frontal bone.

In carnivores, this foramen is double and is known as the ethmoidal foramina. However, these two foramina may merge in some individuals.

The ethmoidal foramen contains the external ethmoidal vessels and the ethmoidal nerve.
