Optic canal
Canalis opticus
Definition
The optic canal is an opening in the presphenoid bone through which the optic nerve and ophthalmic artery pass toward the orbit. At the extremes of each optic sulcus lies the optic canal, which extends rostrally and finally opens into the orbit through the optic foramen.
The rostral cranial fossa, being located more dorsally than the middle fossa, extends to form a bony surface that covers the optic canal.
