Definition
The wing of the presphenoid bone, or orbital wing enters in the constitution of the lateral walls of the cranium as well as the wing of the basisphenoid bone, or the temporal wing.
The wing of the presphenoid bone is vaster than the one of the basisphenoid bone, except in Men and in Dogs where it is at the contrary smaller.
It is partially hidden by the temporal bone, to which it responds by a temporal surface (Facies temporalis).
The discovered part contibutes to form the medial wall of the orbit: it is the orbital surface (Facies orbitalis).
At its basis, it contributes to the formation of the orbital fossa, at the dorsal part of which it is perforated by the optic canal (Canalis opticus)
